10 Simple Content Steps
Take a picture.
You have a phone. Everyone has a phone. Take a picture. You can take lots of photos but start with just one. Don’t edit it. Just take the picture, of anything.
Write a few words about the picture.
Look at the photo. What are 3-5 words you can say about that photo, a phrase, maybe almost like a title, but not a full sentence. Write them down.
Post a short video about the picture.
Whatever you took a picture, now make a short video about it. Use your phone. Don’t over think it. Don’t worry about scripts, sound, lighting, anything. Just hit the record button and talk about what you took a photo of. Tell us about it.
Write a sentence about the short video.
Don’t look at your photo. Don’t watch the video. Don’t be tempted to edit. Instead, write a sentence about your video. Limit yourself to one sentence.
Record an audio podcast about the short video.
This is where the magic happens. Literally, record an audio podcast about the short video. This is where you can elaborate, talk, ramble, just get your thoughts down. And when I say podcast, I’m not talking about a show, with music, or anything. I’m only saying make an audio recording. Get everything out and talk for as long as you can.
Write a paragraph about the audio podcast.
I think this is the hardest part. Writing. But you’ve spent some time talking, thinking, so you probably can write a paragraph. Go on. Write. Don’t write a blog, article, or paper. Just one paragraph.
Record a video podcast about the audio podcast.
Okay. This maybe even harder for some people. But it’s important, maybe the most important thing you can do. Re-record the audio podcast but now do it with a camera. Stick with your iPhone (or whatever phone). Don’t worry about lighting, sound, or a script. But I bet, you’re going to be a little better at presenting than you did when you recorded the audio podcast and when you wrote the paragraph.
Write an article about the video podcast.
While this is more words, you’ve had a chance to write, talk, and capture images of this thing, the person, whatever. So now you can write and full long piece about it. Honestly, 500 words will do, but don’t limit yourself. Just write what needs to be said.
Cut clips from the video podcast.
That long video you recorded. Bet there are 2-4 really good clips less than a minute you can cut and make into separate videos. Do it.
Create something, anything, for your audience based on what you’ve produced.
This is the wildcard. But maybe the most value for whoever you’re trying to reach. You’ve produced so much content that if someone reads and watches it all they’ll be able to use this thing. Maybe you give them a .pdf checklist, or a website widget, or a free t-shirt, or whatever. Have fun. Keep it simple at first, but do something, give something that has value.
