Consistency Matters for Uber and Lyft Rideshare Drivers

This past week has been a reminder for me, all thanks to the tips I've received from my passengers. While the regular fares and promotions are all part of the grind, nothing beats the appreciation that comes from a generous tip. It's that recognition that really keeps my engine running in this gig.

I reached a pretty cool milestone the other day — I'm now officially a 5000 five-star driver, according to Uber! While it's great to see those stars align, it's the tips that have truly made my week exceptional. Out of 42 trips so far, I received tips on 23 of them, racking up a whopping $122 in tips on $528 in fares. That's not just good; it's exceptional for me.

What's different this week? I've pondered that, too, especially during those stretches when tips were scarce the previous weeks, and I felt like hanging up my keys. What I've realized is that it's all about consistency. The last few weeks have been rough, tipping-wise, which makes you question what you're doing wrong. But the truth is, it's a lottery. You never know who will hop into your car or how they will impact your day.

If you just focus on the bad days—or even just the good ones—you're getting a skewed picture. What's important is to look at the big picture. Over time, I've seen that about 39% of my passengers tip consistently, but in the last few weeks dipped to around 25-30%. This week? It shot up to over 50%. What a boost!

The takeaway here? Stick with it. Take the good with the bad. It's those moments of appreciation, those unexpected tips that make your day and your entire week. They remind us why we do what we do: driving through city streets, helping people get where they need to go, and creating connections along the way.

Let's keep sharing our journeys, our highs, and our lows, and remember: every tip, big or small, signals that what we're doing matters. Here's to hoping you all have a tip-top week ahead!
