uber to somewhere

Travis (4.97) jogged across his lawn in slides with his grey hoodie hood over his head, holding his phone and wired headphones wrapped around his hand. It sounded like he was on the phone with someone.

It took 14 minutes to go from Manlius to the Valley in Syracuse. Uber paid me $0.10 to wait an additional 2 minutes and 25 seconds. I asked how he was doing.

"Long day today. Yes sir. I've been up, running around… trying to get IDs, doctor's appointment," he said. "I'm working on my Lincoln right now. But I'm trying to get a fixer upper. I want to get my passport. Maybe Friday?"

I asked where he was going.

"Somewhere," he said. Maybe Brazil or Africa. "Cuba definitely on my bucket list."

I encouraged him to go soon. "What you don't want to do is get to my age and be kind of regretting it, you know?"

"Age is a mindset. I just seen Usher. He's like 47. And he's still working. You can stop here," he said as we pulled up to the corner by Martin Luther King Elementary.

"Hey, I wish you the best."

"God bless you sir"

"God bless you."

I don't think he hung up the phone.
