Where Are We Going?

A conversation that feels like an Uber ride.

I believe an Uber is a unique place. People tend to talk to drivers the way they may talk to a bartender or priest. This podcast is a chance to recreate it, with maybe some visual flair as the guest describes the topic.

Format: You (the guest) appear as the passenger in the backseat of an Uber. I’ll (the host) face forward, like an Uber driver, and ask a straightforward question to start the show as soon as you join the recording:

“Where are we going?”

There’s no intro, no agenda, no pre-scripted questions. The conversation unfolds naturally, like a real ride, and we go wherever it takes us.

Key Points to Remember:

  • Yes, I will be facing away from you. Occasionally, I’ll turn around, but I want to recreate the experience as much as possible, and, oddly, passengers see me, but I don’t see them.

  • No, there won’t be a soft opening, warming you up. When you enter the recording room, the show will begin.

  • No, it’s not an interview. It’s a conversation.

  • No, I won’t edit the podcast unless you specifically ask me to cut something.

  • Topics of the conversation go wherever they go: locations, people, ideas, questions, concepts…

  • We can talk about one thing or a 100 things. Your choice.

  • The podcast ends when you say it ends.

    • It can be a 5-minute show or a 3-hour show.

    • You can say something like, “Looks like we’re just about at our destination.”

    • I’ll wrap the show and recording from there.

    • We can talk “offline” after the recording.

  • I don’t care too much about video or audio quality. For this example, I just used my iPhone and let the software do its thing. It will come out better than you think.
